01. The Event

The Lost Vault is not one event, it is three tabs in one window, and only the middle tab actually pays you. Daily tasks in Decipher Operations hand you Vault Keys. Keys open safes in The Lost Vault. Safes drop Commendation Medals. Medals buy stock in the Reward Exchange. Break any link in that chain and the whole event stalls.

💡 The Loop

Daily tasks → Vault Keys → safes → Commendation Medals → shop. Safes also drop Decipher Chests, and a Decipher Chest can return keys, so a small share of your spend comes back into the loop.

Access

The extra day

The Vault and Decipher Operations run 7 days. The Reward Exchange runs 8. That last day is spend-only: you cannot open another safe, but every medal you are still holding can still be turned into stock. Treat it as your dump day, not as a wasted day.

The number badge on the Lost Vault icon is how many free refreshes you have left today, not how many rewards are waiting. It clears when you burn the third refresh, even if a claimable milestone is still sitting there.

02. Vault Keys

Your entire run is decided before you open a single safe, because the free key supply is fixed at 1,080 keys — exactly 18 safes. Nothing on the board changes that number. Every decision in this guide is about what you spend those 18 opens on.

Free total—1,080

Total with the Manual—2,280

1,080 keys = 18 safes. 2,280 keys = 38 safes. A safe costs 60 keys; a paid refresh costs 90.

Which tasks pay keys

Only four of the six daily tasks pay keys, and two of those four are the hard ones. Skip the speedup task and the recruitment task every day and you lose 60 keys a day — 420 keys, or 7 of your 18 safes.

Front-load the speedup task. 1,000 minutes a day is nearly 17 hours of speedups. If you are hoarding speedups for a build push, spend them during this event instead — the same speedups pay you 30 keys and 100 points a day on top of the build.

03. The Safe Board

Every safe costs 60 Vault Keys, regardless of its rarity. This one line is the whole event. The game charges you the same price for a Rare safe as for a Legendary one, and the Legendary pays roughly 7.6× the medals. Rarity selection is not a nice bonus, it is the only lever you have.

⭐ The whole strategy in one line

Open Legendary safes, refresh past everything else, and spend anything left over on Epics. A free run gets 18 opens against roughly 17 Legendary safes across the week, so a Rare safe should never be worth your keys.

How the board behaves

04. Safe Drop Rates

The Legendary safe is not just better on average, it is better on every line. More medals, more Decipher Chests, more hero fragments, and a jackpot chance 6.7× the Rare safe's. There is no category where opening a Rare beats opening a Legendary, which is why the rarity rule has no exceptions.

Decipher Chests

Decipher Chests feed keys back into the loop, which is the only reason the drop matters. Each chest averages 2 keys. A Legendary safe drops 10 chests 9% of the time, so it returns about 1.8 keys — roughly a 3% rebate on its own 60-key price. It will not change your plan, but it does mean an 18-safe run is really closer to 18 and a half.

Older servers get Electro Cores. On a mature state the safes swap part of the Hero Eqpt. Chest weight for Electro Core drops, up to 100 Cores from a Legendary safe at 0.50%. Season one switches over at server day 50; season two not until day 145. On a younger state, safes cannot drop Cores at all.

05. Refreshing

Refreshing past a bad board costs you nothing, and that is the single habit that decides your run. Three free refreshes a day over seven days gives you 22 boards in total, which surface roughly 17 Legendary safes against the 18 opens your keys can pay for. The two budgets are tuned to land almost exactly on top of each other, so every Rare safe you open early is a Legendary safe you cannot afford later.

The refresh rules

✓ The daily routine

Claim your daily tasks first so the keys are in hand. Open every Legendary safe on the board, refresh, repeat until your three free refreshes are gone, then stop. That is about 2.3 Legendary safes a day against the 2.6 safes a day your keys allow, so expect to finish the week holding a small surplus — spend it on the best Epic safe you can see, never on a Rare.

06. Decipher Operations

The point ladder is not a participation prize — it is genuinely tight. It needs 4,000 Decipher Points and the event only issues 4,900 in total, at 700 a day. That is 900 points of slack across the entire week. You can miss exactly one full day and still finish. Miss two and the top of the ladder is mathematically out of reach.

Decipher Points come from the same six daily tasks that pay your keys.

💡 The completion target

Log in all seven days for 1,400 points, then complete 26 of the 35 remaining daily tasks — an average of 3.7 of the other five tasks each day. That is the real bar, and it is 74% completion, not 100%.

The ladder

Twenty rungs, 200 points apart, from 200 up to 4,000. The free track's real payload is 240 Vault Keys at rungs 1, 5, 10 and 15 — nearly a quarter of your total key income, and it arrives in four lumps of 60. Each one is exactly one safe.

Overflow rewards

Past 4,000 points, every further 500 points pays Diamonds ×100 plus a 1-Hr Universal Speedup. A perfect free run banks 4,900 points, which is one overflow reward with 400 points to spare — so a flawless week is worth exactly one extra bonus over a merely good one. There is no visible cap on how many you can stack.

The Decipher Manual

The Manual is a real-money purchase and its price is not published anywhere in the game data, so judge it on what it grants rather than on value-per-dollar. It does two things: unlocks the paid ladder track, and lets you claim every daily task twice. Combined, that takes you from 1,080 keys to 2,280 — 18 safes to 38.

07. Milestone Rewards

The milestone ladder counts safes opened, not medals earned, and this is the one place the Legendary-only rule costs you something. A free 18-safe run reaches only the first two rungs. The 20-safe rung, worth 30 medals, sits two opens past your budget.

The chest generation follows your season: the second season's ladder pays Gen 2 Hero Materials Chests where the first pays Gen 1.

Do not chase the 20-safe rung by opening two Rare safes. Two Rares cost 120 keys and pay about 3.5 medals plus the 30-medal rung, for 33.5 medals. Two Legendary safes on a later board pay about 26.8 medals and leave you the rung anyway if you ever reach it. The gap is small, and it only exists if you were going to stop at exactly 18.

08. The Reward Exchange

Spend every single medal before the event closes. The shop sells a 100K Resource Supply Chest for 1 medal with an effectively unlimited stock, while the event rules say leftover medals are reclaimed and converted to a 10K chest each. Clearing your balance by hand is worth 10× letting the event do it for you, and it takes about thirty seconds.

⭐ Central Command needs more than a free run

1,500 medals against roughly 240 from a perfect free Legendary-only run. Jackpots can move that number a long way, so it is not impossible with extraordinary luck — but realistically you will need to buy key packs from the shop to fund the extra safes. And because medals are reclaimed when the event ends, you cannot save toward it across seasons. It is a this-run-or-not-at-all purchase, so decide early whether you are funding it.

Spend order on a free run

With roughly 240 medals and no skin in reach, buy in this order. It clears the whole balance and takes every capped line first, because the caps are what run out.

Note: the Hardened Steel line is labelled "Remaining Today", but nothing in the client resets it on a daily boundary. Do not plan on buying five more tomorrow until you have seen it reset yourself. The 1-medal-to-10K-chest end-of-event conversion comes from the shop's own rules text and is not confirmed anywhere else — another reason to spend the balance yourself.

09. Common Mistakes

  • ▸ Open All Math — Members Only
  • ▸ Opening Rare safes because they are there. A Rare pays 1.75 medals for the same 60 keys a Legendary charges for 13.40. Refresh instead. A refresh is free three times a day; a wasted open is gone for the week.
  • ▸ Refreshing with an unopened Legendary on the board. The refresh discards it. This is why the warning prompt exists, and why turning it off with "don't remind me today" is a bad trade.
  • ▸ Skipping a second day. One missed day still clears the 4,000-point ladder. Two does not — the event only issues 4,900 points all week.
  • ▸ Ignoring the speedup and recruitment tasks. They are the two hardest daily tasks and they both pay keys. Dropping both costs 420 keys, which is 7 of your 18 safes.
  • ▸ Saving medals for the 1,500-medal skin. Medals are reclaimed at the end of the event and do not carry to the next season. Either fund it this run or spend the balance.
  • ▸ Letting the event convert your leftover medals. Buy 100K Resource Supply Chests at 1 medal on the final day instead. The shop runs a day longer than the Vault specifically so you can.

TL;DR — The Quick Hits

  1. 1. Every safe costs 60 Vault Keys no matter its rarity. A Legendary pays 7.6× a Rare for that same price.
  2. 2. Open Legendary safes, refresh past everything else, and put any leftover keys into Epics. Never Rares.
  3. 3. A free run has exactly 1,080 keys — 18 safes. That number is fixed before you start.
  4. 4. Your 22 free boards surface about 17 Legendary safes against 18 affordable opens. The two budgets nearly match, so waste nothing.
  5. 5. Open All Penalty — Members Only
  6. 6. Free refreshes do not bank. A skipped day is three boards gone permanently.
  7. 7. The badge on the event icon is free refreshes remaining today, not unclaimed rewards.
  8. 8. The ladder needs 4,000 points and the week only issues 4,900. You can miss one day, not two.
  9. 9. Log in all seven days, then clear 26 of the 35 other daily tasks. That is the completion bar.
  10. 10. Four of the six daily tasks pay keys. Skipping the speedup and recruitment tasks costs 7 safes.
  11. 11. The Decipher Manual takes you from 18 safes to 38 and clears the ladder by day 3. Buying it late loses nothing.
  12. 12. Jackpot Odds — Members Only
  13. 13. Central Command's +2.00% Squad Attack costs 1,500 medals. Expect to buy key packs to reach it, and know that medals do not carry over.
  14. 14. Spend down to zero on the shop's extra eighth day. 100K chests at 1 medal beat the automatic conversion 10× over.
